Welcome to 52 Podcasts and get ready for in-depth podcast reviews! As mentioned on the front page, this site does not claim to tell you all about podcasts. What I will attempt to do is to review at least 52 podcasts in one year!
How I got into this:
As far as I remember, I got into listening to podcasts about 3-4 years ago. I had a lengthy commute to work and could not really read a book. I hated this downtime and there is only so much music I could listen to. Podcasts to me are the cure to downtime. If you do not have the time to read the newspaper (even if you can) then podcasts are for you!
I started off with listening to the news podcasts. Every morning I would listen to the Financial Post Daily Podcast and the World Business News from the BBC. These were fairly short podcasts and I craved for more.
My next foray was into tech podcasts, since technology happens to be my hobby. Thankfully, there are A LOT of tech podcasts out there, ranging from the daily tech news, such as Buzz Out Loud from CNET and, more recently, Tech News Today from the TWiT network.
More recently, I discovered other categories of podcasts, such as documentaries, humor, politics, education, music, science et cetera.
What are my favorites:
My favorite podcasts are listed below. They are in no particular order and many of these will likely be good candidates for my reviews later on. So check back soon.
Why do I do this:
Whenever I discover a new podcast, or I hear something really great on one of my long time favorites, I basically only tell to my friends and family, if they happen to be around. I want to expand my audience and hopefully convince some of you to give it a try.
I understand that people with different interests than mine may not share my fascination with certain podcasts. This is the reason why I will try to vary the selection and try to listen to a broad range of podcasts. Apple iTunes brags that there are more than 100,000 audio and video podcasts out there, so I will always have something to choose from.
Finally, let me address the number 52. I do not plan to stop after I review 52 podcasts. I am of course jumping ahead of myself, but I plan on reviewing podcasts for as long as I have the time and energy.
